Scott’s Restaurant Mayfair Living Installation

A Temporary Living Façade for a Fashion Brand Launch

In summer 2017, Life on Walls partnered with FLOWERBX to create a temporary living installation transforming the façade of Scott’s Restaurant in Mayfair. The project was designed to celebrate the launch of a new fashion brand while creating a striking visual feature in one of London’s most recognisable dining locations.

The Challenge

The brief called for a spectacular bougainvillaea display that would remain in full bloom throughout the summer months. However, the installation had to be delivered without any direct fixings to the building’s historic stone façade, as the restaurant is located within a listed structure.

This meant the design needed to support a large living installation while fully preserving the integrity of the building.

The Solution

To meet these requirements, we engineered a series of bespoke prefabricated frames designed to transfer the structural load directly to the ground.

These frames were carefully positioned and subtly clamped to existing architectural restraint points, allowing the installation to remain completely independent from the listed stone façade while still providing the strength needed to support the living display.

The system allowed us to install vibrant bougainvillaea plants that created a dramatic cascade of colour across the restaurant frontage. Regular weekly maintenance ensured optimal watering conditions and continuous flowering throughout the campaign.

The Result

The finished installation delivered a striking combination of colour, texture, and architectural integration, framing the entrance of Scott’s Restaurant and creating a memorable backdrop for the fashion brand launch.

The living façade attracted significant attention from visitors and passers-by, generating strong visual impact and positive feedback from both the client and the public.

Projects like this demonstrate how temporary living installations can transform event spaces, retail environments, and brand activations while respecting the architectural context of the site.
