01 — The brief

Most failed walls are an irrigation problem.

Replanted areas of the refurbished living wall at EQ Bristol.

An established living wall that has gone patchy is rarely a planting failure on its own. Blocked or unbalanced irrigation, a drifting schedule and missed maintenance visits do the damage first, and the planting follows.

We surveyed the existing system, established what was still serviceable and rebuilt from there — keeping the structure and substrate where they were sound, and replacing what was not.

What we delivered

  • Survey of the existing structure, substrate and irrigation
  • Irrigation re-balanced, re-zoned and re-commissioned
  • Replanting of failed areas to match the original scheme
  • Maintenance regime reset to prevent recurrence

02 — Challenge, solution, result

How it was resolved.

Challenge

The constraint

An existing living wall that had lost coverage in patches, with an irrigation system no longer delivering evenly across the elevation.

Solution

The approach

A survey-led refurbishment: retain the sound structure, re-balance and re-commission the irrigation, replant the failed zones and reset the maintenance schedule.

Result

The outcome

Full coverage restored without a full replacement, at a fraction of the cost and waste of stripping the wall back to the substrate.
